Tarangire National Park

Tarangire National Park is located in northern Tanzania, just 43 miles (70 km) southeast of Lake Manyara National Park. The national park has an area of 1,100 square miles (2,850 square kilometers) and is a part of the larger Manyara Area. The Tarangire River flows through the national park, hence its name. For wildlife, the river is the main source of water. The famous Serengeti Migration of wildebeest and zebras passes through this area during the dry season.

The well-known presence of elephants in the park is one of its attractions. African wild dog, cheetah, and caracal are examples of predatory animals. Along with the sought leopard and lion, there’s also a honeybadger. Tarangire is one of Tanzania’s lion conservation units. The park is home to a wide variety of wildlife, including baboons, cape buffalo, dik-dik, eland, gazelles, giraffes, impalas, mongooses, vervet monkeys, wildebeest, and zebras. It’s also an excellent place to go bird viewing, with over 550 species to choose from.

The Tarangire River draws a wide variety of animals from all over the world during the dry season. The number and accessibility of the species close to the river puts the Ngorongoro wildlife in competition with one another during the dry seasons. The two most notable species are oryx and gerenuk, however sightings are not always abundant.
