Arusha National Park
Arusha National Park is located in the northern region of Tanzania. With a total area of 53 square miles (137 square kilometers), the national park is one of Tanzania’s and Africa’s smallest ones. Kilimanjaro National Park, which is located directly to the east of Arusha National Park, is sometimes referred to as this park’s sister. Many people visit both parks, particularly those who enjoy the mountains.
Mount Meru, Tanzania’s second-tallest peak after Mount Kilimanjaro, is situated there. Meru’s elevation of 14,968 feet (4,562 meters) is not much higher than Kilimanjaro. On clear days, one peak may be seen from the other. A dormant stratovolcano called Mount Meru is Africa’s fifth-tallest peak. Despite being small by national park standards, the park has an abundance of natural features.
The park is divided into three distinct areas. The western portion of the park contains the Meru Crater, from which runoff flows into the Jekukumia River. Perched on the edge of the crater lies the peak. Ngurdoto Crater is located in the southeast portion of the park, which has a diverse grassland ecosystem. The Momella Lakes are located in the northeastern part of the park, and birds congregate there to feed on the algae that grows there.
Many species of animals and a large number of birds can be found in the surrounding forest at the base of the mountain. This park includes 400 different species of birds, making it a birdwatcher’s paradise.
